CCM DJ Spotlight

marty 1. You own a Christian Country Radio Station, where is it located, and how can people follow you?

The station is called, "Heaven's Country".  We are located in Colorado Springs, CO.  You can listen by going to: www.heavenscountry.com and click "listen live".

2. What sparked your interest in starting a CC radio station?

I host an internationally syndicated Christian Country show called, "Today's Cross Country".  People in Colorado Springs kept asking me where they could hear it locally.  I couldn't get any local radio station to play the show so, I started my own radio station.

3. Do you have any plans to bring artists to Colorado?

We're hoping to start bringing Christian Country artists to our area this fall.  By Spring of 2012 for sure.  Hunter Erwin is going to be our first artist to come out.

4. In your opinion, what does the Christian Country Industry need to accomplish to make it grow?

A few things;  One, we need to focus on Christian Country music.  Don't play mainstream country and call it Christian Country.  Two, unity.  We all need to get on the same page and get the Word out.  So many of us want to spread the Word for the right reasons, unfortunately, there are some out there who are only in it for the money.  This makes the industry looks bad.  Three, professionalism.  We've got to raise the standard in the quality of music, production and marketing in this industry.  On the radio side, we need to sound as professional as possible.  I get tired of the excuse, "We're singing for God so you have to play my music!"  No I don't!  I look for excellence.  We've got to be the best we can be.  We may have someone listening who has never heard the gospel before.  If that's the case, what will they think when they hear the music?  What will they think when they hear the D.J. on the radio?  If we're doing this to glorify God, we better be giving it 100%!  It's all or nothing in my book.

5. When you are not a DJ on the radio, what do you do in your spare time?

LOL!  What spare time?  I work as an EMT at a local hospital full time when I'm not working at the radio station.  I try to see my kids and wife as much as I can.

6. Do you have any other DJ's?

Yes.  I'm on in the mornings, 6 - 10 AM MTN time.  I've been doing radio for twenty years.  Ted Griffin is on in the afternoon from 3 - 7 PM MTN time.  Ted's been in radio for over twenty years.  He also produces the internationally syndicated radio program, "Today's Cross Country".  He's a production genius!  You can hear Kimberly Gail from 7 PM - 10 PM MTN time on Heaven's Country.  Kimberly received her degree in radio and television from Murray State University in Murray, KY.  She has since worked as a news reporter, anchor, and radio show host. Kimberly brings a "Delilah" type show to the station each evening.

7. You will be doing part of the Emcee work at Summer Jam this August, what do you look forward to the most?

The Crowd!  I love getting in front of the audience and hearing them get fired up for the show!  It is so much fun when you have a fired up crowd!  Not to mention the great artists and the music!  CCM Summer Jam is going to be a blast!  I can't wait!
8. What do you look for in a song in order to play it on your station?

I look for quality.  The vocals have to be good.  The message has to be scripturally sound.  The production quality has to be good.
